Favreau keeps up his twitter power with more updates from Day 2 and 3 of filming, including Mickey Rourke’s first day and some of Garry Shandling’s comments:
Day 2. Slept like a rock. Finally. Not used to these long hours.
Swarm of paparazzi on set.
Garry Shandling: “I can’t wait to see the movie to see who I actually play.”
Wrapped day two. Time for some sleep. So great to work with Garry.
Mickey Roarke’s first day.
Rourke does not disappoint.
Stayed late to watch dailies. It’s great to see these characters come to life.
The Hollywood reporter have posted a video interview with Transformers 2 writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. Within they discuss their aims for the project and their decision to return.
It was previously rumored that Verbinski would be helming the project, but here is the big news we’ve been waiting for — he has given up his directing chair on Pirates of the Caribbean 4 to take on the BioShock project — Gore Verbinski shall be helming the video game adaptation. Verbinski directed all three Pirates of the Caribbean movies as well as the US Ring remake.
A year since the announcement that a movie would be made it looks like the ball might soon be rolling into the realms of pre-production.
One more rumor to throw into the mix, from the same guy that said Garry Shandling would be Senator Stern, we now hear that Gary Oldman was spotted on set. One rumor, which I believe is just speculation, is that Oldman will be playing Howard Stark, Tony’s father. It was previously thought that Tim Robbins would be playing this role.
Update: Gary oldman’s manager, Douglas Urbanski, he posted the following at SHH:
“Mr. Oldman did not visit the set of Iron Man and there are currently no plans for him to appear in the film.”
Speaking with MTV once again, Michael Bay has revealed further Transformers 2 details — this time focusing on the action scenes,
“There’s no car chase in this movie, […] There’s a lot of different types of action. In some movies, it’s the same action throughout the entire movie. There’s a lot of different types of action in this one, and that makes it interesting.”
He went on to confirm that we would see Devastator in full IMAX glory before claiming:
“[Several scenes] are going to be on IMAX, which is awesome. […] Some of our main scenes were shot with IMAX cameras, so the screen will pop wide [if you see the film in an IMAX theater]. It’s the first movie to do serious digital effects in IMAX quality.”
The opening shot of the movie, which should also be in IMAX, will feature Megan Fox and shall beat that ‘flirtatious hood opening scene’ from the first movie:
“It’s better. […] [While filming] I was at a gas station buying ice cream bars, and these 15-year-old boys were looking at me. They were like, ‘You’re that dude that directed “Transformers”!’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah. Do you want to see “Transformers 2″? They were like, ‘Yeah!’ ” “I said, ‘Why do you want to see it?’ And together, in unison, they said, ‘The hot chick!’ […] It will be a good shot for them.”
Lots of shots showing Downey Jr., Paltrow and Favreau moving around, walking, traveling by car — nothing too sensational and a little bit too stalker-ish for my liking. However one interesting plot point to take into account is that Sam Rockwell is spotted on set (featured in the video) — Rockwell is playing villain Justin Hammer, possibly putting him at the rumored extension of the “I am Iron Man” scene from the first movie — though this is mere speculation. Video comes via JFXOnline.
MTV recently quizzed Robert Downey Jr. about a potential Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Tony Stark love triangle in the Iron Man sequel. He responded, “Heck yeah, Wouldn’t you?” — MTV claims this is confirmation of said plot point, whereas it could just be Downey Jr. having a bit of fun — I’ll opt to classify this little one as rumor for now.
