More ‘bulging’ bat suit from Chicago June 18th, 2007

The spy cameras, cell phone shots and Christian Bale voyeurisms continue to pour in. This time Sarah Piper Brown snapped these shots with her phone on June 16th at a Chicago set.

The novelty and interest in shots like these will soon dissipate so I shall not be posting all of the candid-back-alley pictures or videos received, I feel it may be damaging towards the integrity of the film and will inevitably be incredibly spoilerific.

First look at Gyllenhaal as Rachel Dawes June 17th, 2007

Right place at the right time man Yunerz has snatched some shots of Maggie Gyllenhaal and Aaron Eckhart playing Rachel Dawes and Harvey Dent respectively, right next to his place of work. This is the first time we have seen Katie Holmes’ replacement. Many have viewed this swap-over favourably and are looking forward to seeing Gyllenhaal’s performance.

Whilst these are candid shots, the chosen image (above) does show a considerable likeness between the two portrayals by different actresses. For more images, including Harvey Dent, I recommend visiting the users’ gallery over at flickr.

John August doubtful about release date June 16th, 2007

Screenwriter/Executive Producer John August has laid down his views regarding Disney’s planned release date for the Prince of Persia adaptation, he’s not so sure:

Several sites have reported that Disney has picked July 10, 2009 as the release date for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. My guess is that this got written on a whiteboard at some strategic planning meeting, in answer to the question, “Hey, if we made that Prince of Persia movie, when would we release it?”

It’s a perfectly good date, but I have no idea if there will be a movie to show. I don’t know if it’s getting made, or who’s directing, or who’s starring. No one knows, not even the people signing the checks. It’s still a project in development.

John’s Site.

Maybe late summer 2009? We’ll have to see how things develop.

Joker’s “Clown” Car June 15th, 2007

I always seem to be mentioning these guys, Latino Review have posted this shot, which seems to be legitimate, it’s hard to tell because the article has been taken down. It is being touted as the Joker’s new clown car, likely to be a vehicle that he and/or his henchmen use to travel in. I personally think it’s perfect and look forward to seeing more of the same.

Here it is, complete with two-toned purple paint job et al:

Jokers Clown Car from The Dark Knight

What’s more, we could be getting a glance at a new BAT vehicle next week, according to a Warner Bros. press statement.

EDIT: Seems like this could be a fake using Photoshop, having done some research, although it is a cool and interesting concept that I am sure many people would like to see expanded upon.

While we are on the case of rumors, let’s look at a potential (i.e. likely to be fake) teaser poster, via Film Ick:

The Bat-suit, our first look June 15th, 2007

EDIT: Warner Brothers have released a high resolution version of this image. Check it out here

And so the images continue, this time Entertainment Weekly has provided us the goods in an interview with costume designer Lindy Hemming. Most importantly, with photo, lovingly scanned in for our pleasure by C.Zejr. All the details are in the picture itself, this post needs little commentary.

The Dark Night - Bat Suit

First Production Shots June 15th, 2007

Now that we have had our first taste of The Joker and Harvey Dent, some more delicious images from production of The Dark Knight have begun streaming out. The first shows Nolan overseeing a smartly blurred-out Joker prologue scene, the second reveals some, assumed to be, henchmen of the Joker. From the promo shots and now these images we can already see that this film is building to become darker and more sinister than Batman Begins, inline with the uttered notion that “things need to get worse before they can get better”.

Promotional Images June 15th, 2007

From the official website, this is the first of The Dark Knight promotion shots:

Second comes Harvey Dent’s promotional poster, once again via the Warner Bros. site:

And thirdly, the first unveiling of Heath Ledger as The Joker which slowly emerged via a viral marketing campaign “I believe in Harvey Dent TOO”:

A Round Up so Far June 15th, 2007

An announcement was made in July 2006 that Christian Bale would continue in the role of Batman in the sequel to Batman Begins. Warner Brothers also announced that Heath Ledger would play the role of The Joker, with actors actors Paul Bettany,Lachy Hulme, Adrien Brody and Robin Williams all previously rumored. At this same time Warner Bros. officially initiated the production of The Dark Knight, using David S. Goyer’s treatment, co-written by Nolan.

The role of Harvey Dent, District Attorney of Gotham City and otherwise known as Two-Face, was cast in February 2007, to be played by Aaron Eckhart. Around this time, despite previous mentions that Katie Holmes would return as Rachel Dawes, it was made known that Holmes would not be involved in the sequel, due mainly to scheduling conflicts. In March this year Maggie Gyllenhaal became the replacement. Anthony Michael Hall, of 1980s Breakfast Club fame, also has an unnamed role in the film.

Nolan’s interpretation of the Batman franchise shall continue to be very different to that of its redecessors.  The Joker character is based primarily on his first two appearances in the Batman comics, as well as Alan Moore’s one-shot comic book Batman: The Killing Joke.  Principle photography began in April 2007, pushed back from March, beginning in Chicago between April 18th and 24th — shooting scenes for the Joker’s prologue, as of June 9th they have returned to continue filming there until early September. Tentative filming locations also include London, Liverpool, Los Angeles, Baltimore, and Hong Kong.

Hans Zimmer and  James Newton Howard have confirmed that they shall provide The Dark Knight’s score.
