Why So Serious Halloween Hunt October 31st, 2007
Chris Nolan and Charles Roven reveal details October 25th, 2007
The website Kino has posted some details from an interview with the Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan and producer Charles Roven, sadly however, the website is entirely in German. Not to worry, Batman on Film have some interpreters (otherwise known as Google Translate) to work it all out for us non-bilinguals:
As we already know, Batman (Christian Bale) travels to Hong Kong. Producer Chuck Roven confirmed [the] Asian trip but would not reveal why Batman goes there. “Gangster hunting” was mentioned.
The new Batman suit will be equipped with “[white] lenses” (some sort of bat sonar equipment).
The prologue that will be shown in IMAX in December is the first five minutes of the film.
Here’s a translated quote from Chris Nolan: “[The Dark Knight] is not ‘The Joker Begins’. We did not want to tell how the Joker became what he is.
“In those five minutes [of the prologue], we show how the Joker goes from being a small-time crook to Gotham’s greatest villain. It’s like ‘The Rise of the Joker’.”
Meanwhile, composer Mel Wesson, working with James Newton Howard and Hans Zimmer on the Dark Knight score, mentioned the dark theme they were aiming to achieve (via BatMovieNews):
This is the one I’ve been waiting for. Another outing for Gotham’s Dark Knight, together with Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard. I began working on ideas in mid September ’07, it’s a long schedule but it’s good to have time to experiment and expand the ideas we had on Batman Begins into the darkness.… don’t forget ‘Not all jokes are funny’.
And the pumpkin doth wither October 25th, 2007
It seems our candle melting Dark Knight teaser over at Why So Serious is beginning to get a little old and weary with time. Yes, the pumpkin is beginning to fray at the edges as rot sets in and the candle begins to reach its end.
Well spotted all those that sent this in.
EDIT: Right side only it seems, many people have suggested references to Two Face.
7 Minutes of Dark Knight Footage to air in December October 16th, 2007
The Brazilian site Omelette got the scoop on this first, but that’s all in a foreign language, so let me explain. The rumor is that in front of IMAX screenings of I Am Legend, a 7 minute prologue segment of The Dark Knight will run. This will not be a trailer, but an entire scene with beginning, middle and end.
According to Omelette the segment shall feature Heath Ledger as The Joker — a sort of background if you will, running in parallel with the end of Batman Begins and the start of TDK. Film ick think that the footage will revolve around a bank heist, which was shot in the IMAX format.
This shall only run in front of the IMAX version of I Am Legend, a proper Dark Knight trailer may instead run in normal cinemas, but that is merely conjecture.
We’ll keep you posted!
Battersea Power Station Explosion for TDK October 12th, 2007
This was a turn up for the books. Unlike the well anticipated Chicago demolition, this explosion came completely unprompted and minus the live video footage, helicopter feed and local photographers.
However, The London Paper were on scene to capture some images and make a comprehensive report, to our delight.
The emergency services were flooded with calls from local residents who feared the defunct electricity generating plant had been targeted by terrorists.
But they were reassured the 200ft fireball, accompanied by columns of grey smoke, which could bee seen for miles across the capital, was a special effect for the latest Batman film.
SPOILER: The spectacular stunt scene, in which Batman actor Christian Bale narrowly cheats death, is believed to be the opening sequence of the fifth caped crusader movie The Dark Knight.
Resident Marck Jason, 24, of Battersea, said: “I was gobsmacked. I was just walking home and saw this bloody huge explosion.
“Obviously my first thought was that it was a terrorist attack and I dialled 999.
“I know it’s sort of cool that the place is being used for a film, as its a brilliant building, but a bit of warning wouldn’t have hurt.”
If anyone has more from the scene we’d love to hear from you!

Bat and Dog Fight in Cardington October 8th, 2007
“Bedford Today”, a local news website, are reporting that Rory’s First Kiss (aka the latest Batman sequel) signs have been appearing in the Cardington area once again:
It is believed the secrecy-shrouded shoot at Cardington involves the massive Gotham City set built in the rear of the shed for the earlier movie and left standing afterwards.
The Times & Citizen understands dog-handlers have come over from the USA for one sequence, thought to involve a chase featuring the Batmobile.

Tragic death in Dark Knight filming September 25th, 2007
BBC News are reporting that a special effects technician has been killed in a stunt practice run for an upcoming Dark Knight scene, at the Qinetiq racetrack in Surrey, England. The technician had been on a camera truck reportedly following the Batmobile. The fatal accident occurred when the 4x4 truck ran into a tree.
“Warner Bros Pictures and the entire cast and crew of The Dark Knight are deeply saddened by this tragedy, and their hearts and prayers go out to the family and loved ones of the deceased.”
As do ours.
The accident is now being investigated by Surrey police and the Health and Safety Executive.
Hong Kong Knight September 22nd, 2007
The Dark Knight filming schedule is taking Batman to Hong Kong this November, where a planned 9 week stint shall take place. However not all people are welcoming this hero’s arrival, Hong Kong politicians have sited the possibility of traffic disruptions and noise pollution as cause for concern. For instance, the use of a helicopter during night time (2 a.m.) scenes has had politicians stating that residents should purchase some ear plugs for the period.
Filming is expected to revolve around “The Center”, the fourth tallest skyscraper in Hong Kong at 73 storeys.
